Maintaining the foot health

The hooves must be cared carefully to avoid limping.  Limpings, when they are frequent (25-30 cases/year for 100 dairy cows) are economically important (estimated costs : about 260€/limping), which make them the third health issue in dairy cattle breeding, after reproduction and mastitis.

The good reflexes

  • Preventing hoof trimming
  • To be done twice a year

Ideal time :

      • 60 days before drying up
      • 45 days after calving

In case of lesions : curative hoof trimming, early intervention

Feet disinfection by foot bath of by spraying a disinfecting solution in the milking room
